As a life coach, I understand the critical importance of being able to identify what the client is trying to achieve with their time when they are with me.
More so, as a Johannesburg life coach, I know my limits so I often make use of effective coaching tools, techniques, models and frameworks. This helps me structure and guides my sessions. One such model that is utilised by most life coaches is the CLEAR model.
The CLEAR model is a coaching framework that is used by many life coaches to help their clients set and achieve goals. The acronym stands for:
C – Contracting: This is the process of establishing the coaching relationship, setting expectations, and agreeing on the coaching objectives.
L – Listening: This is the process of actively listening to the client and gathering information about their current situation, needs, and goals.
E – Exploring: This is the process of exploring the client’s thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and behaviours related to the coaching objectives. This can include identifying any limiting beliefs or obstacles that may be preventing the client from achieving their goals.
A – Action: This is the process of developing a plan of action that is aligned with the client’s values, purpose, and passions. This can include setting specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time-bound (SMART) goals, and identifying the steps that the client will take to achieve them.
R – Review and Reflect: This is the process of reviewing the client’s progress, celebrating their successes, and reflecting on what they have learned. This can include identifying areas that need improvement and making any necessary adjustments to the plan of action.
The CLEAR model is a flexible framework that can be adapted to suit the needs of different clients. The life coach can use it to structure the coaching sessions and help the client to set and achieve their goals more effectively. Additionally, the model helps the life coach to guide the client through a logical and comprehensive process and to keep track of the progress and the outcome.
It’s important to note that the CLEAR model is not the only model and it can be used in conjunction with other models or techniques depending on the coach’s preferences and the client’s needs.
